Gloom-Bloom, 2023
a two person show with Sydney Ewerth at Day + Night Projects, Atlanta
Day & Night Projects is proud to present two contemporary artists working in ceramics, Emily Llamazales and Sydney Ewerth, in a duo exhibition: Gloom-Bloom. Both use the nature around them as inspiration, expressed in porcelain and stoneware, as well as epoxy and synthetic materials. Llamazales’s distinctive piece “Blood-Full Lily…,” shows two branches that fold together holding a spider web, juxtaposing a fairy-like visual with dark ecological forebodings. Ewerth’s abstract conglomerations—physical mappings of line and shadow—allow for exploration of seriousness in the silly, presenting a humorous front that masks coy, obsessive behaviors. In this exhibition, both artists attempt to evoke the hazy ambiguity of a transient moment and memorialize the possibilities through reimagining.
